Hello, I've been watching this board with much interest over the past year. I responded a few times to job seekers and started some off line discussions via email with people who have read my post on finding employment in information technology. I have helped 6 people become gainfully employed as technologists over the past 4 months. Most were able to get jobs in about 3-5 weeks. 2 of them were very green-entry level.

I continuously see the same concerns and questions arise on this board (and on other boards at cramsession and elsewhere).

They are:
* Is IT still a good field?
* What direction in IT should I take (networking, programming, multi-media, blah, blah)?
* How does one get entry level experience when the jobs require experience? (the Catch-22-you need to have what you need to get in order to get what you need to have-dilemma)
* Review my resume questions?
* Will x certification(s) help me land a job?
* Are there any companies hiring?
* How much should I ask for?
* How much should I be making?
* How do I answer x interview question?
* How do I make that initial contact?
* What are employers looking for?
* How do I structure an employment agreement?
And others..........

I have started compiling a toolkit for IT professionals with information on how-to find IT Jobs and develop a career in IT. I have had success in helping people break in and advance their careers and am passionate that IT is, and will remain, an incredible results-based career choice.

However, as I've said in the past, it is not a panacea of easy money and easy opportunity and the past couple years are a correction that will help mature the field (albeit a painful one).

With that said, I am going to provide, IF DESIRED, some of the material (via links) I am creating for a seminar and workbook covering Building IT Careers, on this discussion board.

My reasons are two-fold:
1) Your feedback will help me define the issues and the solutions to finding ways to break into and build technology careers. and...
2) I promote cramsession (in fact, it's part of my help-desk standards for companies I consult) constantly as a place gather good info and I would love to give back to the community.

So the question... As I develop materials, articles and samples for building a successful IT career, do any of you, all of you, none of you, want to see it, review it, and most importantly, use it - and provide feedback to help me with this endeavor?

Thanks all.

Matt

Untitled Document > Persistent Group Chat: An Approach for More Profitable Team Communications : Unlike email, instant messages (IMs) do not allow group communication; nor do they persist -- you can't hold on to them for as long as you wish. Persistent group chat, however, allows businesses to organize persistent dialogue around business- critical topics, and keep them for easy retrieval later.
